Leon is thrilled to announce that he will be featured in the Fine Art @ Hale 2025 exhibition.
As an old boy himself, Leons ties to Hale School run deep. As a student in the 1960s, he was taught and mentored by the legendary Robert (Bob) Juniper, one of Western Australia’s most celebrated artists and Hale’s then Head of Art. Under Juniper’s guidance, Leon’s creative talents were nurtured in an environment that supported his imagination and technical skills. Leon often reflects on his time at Hale as a pivotal chapter in his artistic development.
Now, in 2025, we are honoured to welcome him back—not only as a distinguished alumnus but as a nationally renowned artist whose work continues to inspire.
A feature at this years exhibition is his commemorative etching, From Humble Beginnings, (pictured bottom left) originally commissioned for Hale School’s 150th anniversary. This work, combining etching and collage on acid-free fine art paper, captures the essence of Hale’s rich history through Leon’s unique visual storytelling. Limited editions of this significant piece will be available for purchase at the exhibition.
Also on display will be his latest and sought-after etching, Marks of Perpetual Significance, (pictured bottom right) along with an original mixed media painting on canvas, “There’s No Story Going on Here” (pictured below) —both demonstrating the depth and evolution of his artistic voice.
In addition to his contributions to the exhibition, we encourage you to have a look at his collaboration with the School: the stunning marble inlay in the Hale School foyer. Created as a permanent installation, this piece is a lasting symbol of Leon’s connection to the Hale community and a must-see.
