Description
The Etching is about surfing out of the water- contemporary style is more about light turns over the top waves, quite a lot of time actually not surfing but flying. The seascape is shown with signs written by local surfers who wish to keep their favourite waves to themselves by scaring off tourists.
This whimsical Pericles artwork is typical of his style in its combined use of etching with collage and giclee printing. It is a celebration of the surfing world, complete with posters, surfing styles, board types and Leon’s own brand of surf wax. The etching at the top of the piece shows the skill & manoeuvres that ensure a surfer spends as much time flying as actually in the water. Handmade signs litter the seascape, all made by the local surf rats attempting to scare tourists away from their beloved beaches.
