EXHIBITIONS

September 2007   Monsoon Gallery,  Broome  WA.
A mixed exhibition of paintings and prints opened on 31st August to a large and enthusiastic group of Broome residents and visitors.
Well known local identity Bill Reed from Linneys opened the exhibition in style.
From the artist's private collection an artists' proof of "Teardrops of the Gods" was offered for purchase by auction.
The bidding was spirited and the work finally fetched the record price for a Pericles print of $5500.
The buyer was Sydney based but a frequent visitor to Broome.

Leon produced a new work to celebrate Broome again.   This work "A Land of Treasures" is a gem itself, celebrating, the land, the sea and the people.

The Pearl Fishers' Duet is another Broome inspired work which blends pearl fishing with Bizet's operatic song by that name.   Leon never fails to be inspired by the environment and its history and culture.  His artist in residency at the Cable Beach Club Resort brought many interested visitors and house guests to observe his works in progress.

 STUDIO NEWS

Earlier in the year Lisa Milner joined our studio team and quickly settled into working alongside Helen Clarke, gleaning as much knowledge as possible of the studio modus operandi  before Helen departs at the end of the year.
This is an awesome task as Helen’s many years of working closely with Leon and her immense talent as an artist and knowledge of our professional working studios made her almost indispensable.

Lisa brings with her considerable experience in the art world from her own artistic ability to her experience and understanding of the art world.  Previous work in  galleries and auction houses equips her well for  the curatorial, marketing and management of a busy studio.

Jess Drake Brockman continues to inject a youthful energy and versatility into the studios by  contributing her printmaking skills as well as design/computer knowledge.

The departure in July of Dave Edwards, our picture framer for 6 years, was a sad time.   He and his wife Jenny have departed on a journey around Australia and we wish him well.  His large shoes are being filled by Peter Blake and Anne Barnetson who make a terrific team.  QUATTRO Framing continues to grow from strength to strength.

Young Chris Thomson, a student in year 11 at Shenton College visits us a couple of afternoons a week after school and willingly assists in the myriad tasks of assembling, sorting and cleaning.

Leon’s work continues to evolve in multiple directions.  He has explored many avenues of collage in the form of 3 dimensional art works from thematic card constructions to a playful series of Rock ‘n’ Roll  CD covers assembled with objects, printed images and an  interactive quiz.
His painting continues to show his constant experimentation and joy of developing new ideas -  layers and textures, patterns and colour.

The making of prints is an ongoing means of expressing stories that engage him.   From  his observations of the human condition in “The Great Escape”  to the confusion and controversy of world religions in “My God’s Better Than Yours” to the history of medicine in  “An Apple A Day”, Leon has expressed images and ideas in his inimitable way.  It has been a busy year of making art

At a personal level, Leon and Moira are delighted to announce the arrival of a grand daughter.  Linnéa Carlotta Pericles was born to Damien and Jasmin on 12th Sept 2007.
