The Widjimorphup Museum
Celebrating Its Great Sesquicentennial Year
150 years ago, this extraordinary Australian outback town was born. A
dynasty of culture has persevered, infiltrated and inseminated the very
essence of good taste and is now exposed in this memorable event.
The first major exhibition in Perth in 8 years will open at The Greenhill
Galleries, 37 King Street Perth with a preview on Wed. 4th December and
opening 6pm on 5th December.
King Street will be closed 6pm Thursday 5th December to accommodate the art
loving hordes who may dine alfresco in the street after gorging themselves
on the sumptuous art.
The opening will be by Sir Herbert Fossil, Director of the Widjimorphup
Museum (alias Dr. Gary Morgan, Director of the Western Australian Museum) in
the presence of Her Magnificence the International Cultural Queen, Ms Tiggy
Puggenheim, the esteemed Lord Mayor of Widjimorphup Mr Mervyn Pigmorton and
the highly respected self effacing art critic Mr. Hugh J'Eegeau.
The Community of Widji, using their talent and craft have been invited to
celebrate their 150 years by sharing with us their lives through displays in
the museum representing their work, hobbies and activities. These works
include paintings, 3 Dimensional displays, and handmade printsThis exhibition by Leon Pericles celebrates the people in small country
towns who work tirelessly in the recording and collecting of historical
material to preserve and enrich the culture and heritage of their
communities.
The exhibition will run to 24th December 2002.
