Our Xmas and Inaugural Exhibition at the Mosman Park Studios was a stunning success.

After an exerted effort to complete the new exhibition space, upstairs above the print room and framing workshop at the rear of the building, we were able to show a breadth of Leon’s work not previously possible. This included large paintings, a wide range of handmade print works as well as a collection from the “Tiggy Puggenheim Collection” 1996 and “Inside the Museum of Widjimorphup” 2002. These are private collection works but offer visitors to the studio an historical context of the remarkable body of Leon’s work over the years.

With a return to a focus on the medium of the etching process, the new body of prints shows an extraordinary attention to detail with a range of topics such as real estate, social behaviours, rural idiosynchrasies and boating narratives, all with a keen eye for the humorous and the absurd.

After a 4 week break we re-opened the studios in January and are now preparing for a busy year ahead. An ambitious exhibition program, a print commission and travel plans fills the year.

Print Commission Hale School 2008

This year, Hale School is celebrating its 150th Anniversary and to mark the occasion Leon has accepted a commission to produce a limited edition handmade print.

Work is underway and hours of reseach and access to the archives of Hale School has seen Leon immerse himself in the remarkable history of the School.

This work is well underway and the launch is to take place in May. The School community will receive details within the next month - but already there is a large number of old boys who have committed sight unseen to the purchase. The work measures approx 90x50 cm(vertical) and the framed price is $1500.

Enquiries for this work can be directed to Hale School.

STUDIO NEWS

Helen Clarke retired at the end of 2007 and we miss her dearly. Lisa Milner has stepped in as Studio Manager and is ably assisted by Anne Barnetson, a UWA graduate in Fine Art and also assisting in the studio is Jess Drake Brockman who is currently completing a Fine Art Degree (jewellery) at Curtin University. It’s a great complementary team.

In the framing workshop Peter Blake is ably assisted currently by Coral Melgies who has organised our “system” to reflect a more efficient outcome and we will miss her when she departs in April.
